It's an okay toy, but it is NOT the original one shown in the picture. I ordered one from here about 2 years ago, and it was identical to the
original game. I ordered one Nov. 2015, and it was smaller, the robots move less crisply, the necks are plastic instead of steel, and they DO NOT MAKE THE WHIRRING SOUND WHEN YOU KNOCK THEIR BLOCKS OFF. It's surprising how much less satisfying it is without the whirring sound.

See photo for size comparison. 2013 version on left; 2015 version on right.

Piece of junk!!! Amazon should be ashamed of selling such crap. First of all it's only half the size of the original rock em sock em robots. Which should be the first thing it says. Instead it's worded to fool people into thinking it's the original size. Secondly: the heads pop up just from pushing the buttons so it's even made cheaply. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN AMAZON.

Well, I have to admit I did not play this game 50 years ago nor have I ever experienced the "original version" that was apparently made so much better than this one according to other reviewers......BUT....I'm surprised by all the negative comments about "not worth buying", "cheaply made", etc. I got this for my 8 year old son's birthday and I have to say its provided LOADS of light-hearted fun. He was SO EXCITED when he opened the box (and he'd never heard of this game!) It's not a game you sit and play for hours, but we love taking turns battling each other - Dad versus son, Mom versus Dad, son versus little sister, son versus granddad, son versus friend, etc. The robots are easily moved, buttons work well and there is some practice and skill required to win (busting the head off your opponent's robot). You have to block and you have to hit the chin just right to sock the head off your opponent! For Christmas we purchased a VERY EXPENSIVE electronic battle bots game with remote controls. That game is TERRIBLE compared to this one and it's much "better made" (not cheap by any means). We've played Rock 'em Sock 'em 10 times more than the expensive, electronic bells and whistles version. Sometimes simple is better and I think this game should be appreciated for what it's meant to be - a battle robot game for kids who will DELIGHT in rockin' those robots and sockin' their heads off! :)

I had Rock 'Em Sock 'Em in the 70's as a kid and they were great. The coolest thing about this ederation is the old school box. Other than that they are complete plastic garbage. And they don't make the cool head popping ratchet sound when you smack you opponent on the chin..the head pops up and that's it. My college age son and I thought if would be fun to play and it was...for 5 minutes and then we put them in the closet for a few months and then the trash.

We bought this for our Grandson's 6th birthday. It's hard sometimes to find a gift the kids like that doesn't involve video games and similar electronics, those popular building blocks or the latest cartoon characters found in video games AND keeps them interested for more than a couple minutes.

We took a chance on this "old fashioned" toy and our grandkids loved playing each other, their Poppa (me) and their Dad. I had a fun time playing as well with both them and my grown up son. Finally a non-electronic toy that they're actually using!

This toy is marked adult assembly required, which always worries me a bit. But the assembly was just snapping a few plastic parts together and no tools were required. Literally just took a couple minutes and the instructions had about 3 steps or so.

All that and it doesn't break the bank either!

This product is not what I expected. You can't get it it put together properly the string for the ring does not fit in to the designated holes. To move the robot is very difficult. I do not recommend this product and I feel that I should be able to return it even though I'm past the return time. My grandsons can't play with this. Not like it used to be.

Unlike many reviewers of classic toys I have few illusions that the past as viewed through a child's eyes was any better than today's goods built from modern materials. I remember from 50 yrs ago how fun this toy was but how irritating because the plastic was brittle and it kept breaking. The modern version seems sturdily built with a less brittle plastic. Is smaller than the original ( I think) but what dooms this version is it lacks a key feature- remember when the head popped up on the original? It was a big event with that satisfying metallic "zizzzzzz" sound as the head popped up an inch or more. New version you barely know. No sound and head barely pops.

Will a child today be engaged by this toy as it is? I expect so and that is reason I bumped from 2 star to 3. Will update after Christmas Day.

It doesn't seem the same as I remember as a kid (granted I was much smaller so it probably looked much bigger then). The main thing is there's 'no noise when the block is knocked off' which was really fun - that was the best part! I'm hoping the kids have fun with it-guess we will have to make our own noise.

This was around in the 70s and called Raving Bonkers (among a variety of names it apparently had), though I never had one.
I wasn't prepared to pay silly money for an original on eBay so when this was reissued I had no reservations about buying my own over three decades later!
But this is a rather pale imitation of its predecessor. It looks very similar but clearly isn't built to withstand the prolonged and enthusiastic gaming of children (big or small).
The plastic is pretty flimsy, the heads are feeble and don't even make a noise when they ping up - as they did back in the heyday.
At £26 I expect far more than an insubstantial trip down memory lane. A more reasonable price for this product of this quality would be around £15.
I'd recommend thinking very carefully before investing in this particular version of a retro toy.
"They don't make them like they used to" was never more appropriate.

3.0 de 5 estrellas Son likes it but ridiculous price

My son likes this and has been enjoying it (that's the main thing after all) but I have to say that £24.99 is an absolute rip off. If someone showed this to me up front I'd have suggested £4.99 is the maximum price that its worth.

Update:
Having looked at the photos of the product I've realised that I have been sent the wrong item. The one I have has no ring, ropes or double triggers for the fighters. Unfortunately we don't have the box anymore but hoping amazon will allow me to return it

5.0 de 5 estrellas A Great Remake of The Original

I think some of the reviews clearly did not receive the full size remake of the original Rock'Em Sock'Em game. What I received was indeed a faithful (as much as I can remember) facsimile of the original that provided endless hours of oldskool robot boxing fun!

2.0 de 5 estrellas Disappointed 7 year old

Instructions in German no English version
Have to use extra pressure to fix the robots in place although they do come off easily
The rope wasn't long enough and cannot be attached in all 4 corners very disappointed as this was for my sons birthday and caused a melt down as he has autisum and couldn't understand why his game didn't work properly
